Art & Design Programme
Aligning with our mission to provide a well-rounded education, part of our curriculum is dedicated to exploring the arts.
At One World International School (OWIS), Art and Design is more than just a subject — it is a means of creative expression, critical thinking, and storytelling. From the earliest years of schooling through to the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), our students are encouraged to explore their ideas, emotions, and perspectives through colour, texture and form.
At One World International School, we provide an arts programme that helps expand the elements of visual, creative and performing arts to give your child an appreciation of the benefits of artistic expression. Both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities, we teach students about different art forms and encourage them to cultivate their interests and talents through visual arts and drama.
Art as Part of Every Child’s Journey at OWIS

Art education at OWIS begins in Early Childhood, where young learners experiment with colours, materials, and techniques to develop fine motor skills and creative confidence.

In the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), art is often integrated into transdisciplinary units, allowing students to make creative connections between art and other subjects such as science, social studies, or language. This approach encourages them to see art as a way to inquire, express understanding, and communicate ideas visually.

By Secondary School, students develop a deeper appreciation for technique, concept, and composition. They continue to explore a variety of artistic mediums — drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and digital art — while learning about art history, cultural influences, and design principles.

Students who choose Visual Art as an IBDP subject engage in advanced studies of artistic processes and concepts, culminating in their IBDP Art Exhibition — a showcase that represents their personal exploration, skill development, and creative voice.
Spaces that Inspire Artistic Expression
Across our campuses, OWIS provides dedicated art studios designed to spark creativity and imagination. These bright, flexible spaces are equipped with age-appropriate tools and materials that allow students to freely experiment with different media.
Student artwork is also regularly displayed — a source of pride for learners and inspiration for the school community. These displays celebrate the diversity of artistic expression and remind every student that creativity has a valued place at OWIS.
Showcasing Artistic Talent through Exhibitions
At OWIS, students participate in art exhibitions that highlight their creativity, effort, and progress.
These exhibitions provide valuable opportunities for learners to share their ideas with peers, parents, and the wider school community.
For IBDP Visual Art students, the final art exhibition is a meaningful culmination of their artistic journey at school.
This capstone achievement not only celebrates their personal growth, but also prepares them for higher studies in art, design, architecture, or related creative fields.
At OWIS, we recognise the importance of art in schools
During classes and extracurricular activities, students have the opportunity to engage in various art disciplines, both visual arts and performance arts.
By engaging in our exciting school art curriculum, students acquire the skills and knowledge to speak intelligently about the design, style and techniques on any piece of art they encounter. While having fun exploring their creative side, children are learning practical skills, such as teamwork, perseverance and collaboration. Co-curricular activities in the arts allow students to build on what they are learning in class, applying their skills in a relaxed environment.
As an international school, we celebrate diversity in a multicultural environment. At OWIS, we focus on the many ways art affects our world, beginning with how art shaped ancient civilisations. Learning about different artists and artistic movements throughout history teaches children the relationship between art and culture. This promotes students’ understanding of different cultures, including their own. International school visual arts serve as a way for students to enhance their cultural awareness, an important part of preparing to become global citizens and leaders.
We provide a variety of ways to integrate art into our interdisciplinary programme. Throughout the year, students participate in art weeks and annual art exhibitions, which showcase both visual and performance art. These events allow students to talk about their creations with other students, teachers, parents and the local community. Students gain new insight and perspective when they experience and examine the artwork of their peers and receive other perspectives on what they have created.
Art Appreciation at OWIS
Art appreciation encourages students to think about how art is a part of their world, and how they can use different art forms to express themselves in new and creative ways.
We explore the expressive components of various pieces of art and look at how they are used. These components include line, texture, colour, shape, space and value. Analysing a variety of artworks teaches students how these elements combine to affect each piece.
The OWIS arts programme encourages students to think critically and problem-solve as they expand their understanding of the subject.
Our school art curriculum centres around observation, discussion, experimentation and research. As they learn about different art forms, they have the opportunity to try their hands at various techniques, using a variety of materials.
