History of GSG and OWIS

OWIS was acquired by GSG in 2015, and this allowed us to widen our outreach to the international student community. Our OWIS Nanyang campus welcomed its first students in January 2018 after we successfully competed against 11 other K-12 international schools to win a tender offered by Singapore’s Economic Development Board for our Nanyang school site. We launched our purpose-built, state-of-the-art OWIS Digital Digital Campus in the 2023-24 school year, which will stand at the forefront of modern education.

The success story of the OWIS schools in Singapore has also inspired the expansion of our footprint to India, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

GSF has grown tremendously since its humble beginnings in 2002. To carry out our shared mission, the OWIS leadership team collaborates with the GSF team in multiple areas of synergy:

Governance. We strive to follow best practices as we seek not only to achieve our goals but also those of GSF.

Efficiency in day-to-day operations. Optimising our management procedures in areas such as accounting, finance and IT infrastructure enables us to make the best use of available resources.

Educational excellence. For each of our campuses, our Academic and Examination Board establishes rigorous academic standards. Each of our schools caters to a distinct community, and our programmes are tailored accordingly.

Advisors to OWIS

GSG also provides advisors to OWIS:

  • Prof. Ralph Tabberer CB is an expert educator with more than 35 years experience in the school sector, in higher education and in government. He was Director General of Schools in England between 2006 and 2009, a post in which he was responsible to PM Tony Blair for the development and performance of 23,000 primary, secondary and special schools in the UK.


  • Kotaro Tamura, a former Japanese politician, served in Prime Minister Abe's cabinet as Parliamentary Secretary of the Office of Economic and Fiscal Policy. He is currently a Professor at LKY School of National University of Singapore

Global Schools Foundation is committed to maintaining high standards in governance, curriculum quality and management. To consistently ensure best practices in teaching and learning, we invite key stakeholders to work with the board to improve OWIS and GSF. Their feedback helps us incorporate policies and practices that have established us as leaders in international education.
