Understanding AEP

OWIS Tsukuba’s AEP Programme is designed to help non-native English speakers develop strong foundational English language skills to allow them to actively participate in classroom activities that demand English language proficiency.

With this programme, we strive to ensure that our students are able to master English communication skills and grow up to become successful professionals in the global landscape.

Does Your Child Require the AEP Programme?

Your child’s English skills will be evaluated using an English assessment of an international standard during the application process.

Students are grouped into one of the following three categories based on the assessment results:

Above Competency level

Students scoring high in the English assessment are included in the regular classes.

Primary Students below the Competency Level

Primary students who do not have the required proficiency level in English are supported through supplementary English classes along with the regular classes. On top of everything, we encourage learning, so primary students do not have to worry about passing or failing.

Secondary Students below the Competency Level

Secondary students who do not have the required competency level in English, but have passed the assessment will need to attend the AEP classes along with their regular classes for an indefinite period of time. We require prospective secondary students to have the required level of competency in English in order to get considered for enrolment.

Flexible Learning

Learning at OWIS Tsukuba is all about letting every student progress at their own pace while being able to address their specific language requirements. The AEP programme allows students to overcome their language difficulties, develop strong English skills and get integrated in the regular classes.

Maximum Benefits

Students are allowed to join regular classes once they attain the desired level of English proficiency. However, students may choose to continue the AEP programme till their graduation, which gives them optimal programme benefits. With this setup, they get the required resources to address language challenges in their mainstream curriculum.
